What We Can Expect from the 2022 Subaru Forester near Rio Rancho NM

Thanks to its full time all-wheel drive and above average ground clearance, the 2022 Subaru Forester near Rio Rancho NM can already go where other compact crossovers and SUVs can't. It has a roomy cabin and plenty of space for cargo, and you can't ask for better standard safety features. So, what changes to this gem of a car would make it even better?

The Forester was redesigned in 2019, and will probably keep most of the design elements we see on this version. However, it's the beginning of the fourth year of this generation, so the current model will get a mild refresh. A restyled front end with an improved bumper, upgrades to the side moldings, minor tweaks at the rear, and slight interior changes will most likely be seen.

If rumors and past actions hold any clues, other changes could arrive in more off-road credibility for the Forester. Just last month Subaru introduced the all-new Wilderness Edition for the Outback, and according to sources, the 2022 Subaru Forester near Rio Rancho NM is undergoing the same treatment.

Wilderness Edition

The Wilderness Edition is a special rendition of the vehicle, with added features that would normally be put on after a purchase. Even more ground clearance, additional and sturdier cladding, front and rear skid plates, and an upgraded suspension are a few of the off-road extras that are put on at the factory so it's ready to hit the trail as soon as you take it home.

A modified Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), advanced rear differential, dual function X-Mode, and fat 17-iinch Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires, including a full-size spare, rounds out the major modifications of the Wilderness Edition. Well, almost. Improved roof rails that can support up to 700 pounds come standard on the Outback Wilderness, so we're pretty sure the new Forester Wilderness will get the same.

2022 Subaru Forester near Rio Rancho NM: Engine

With all the alterations and additions included on the Wilderness Edition, this Forester is going to be heavier than the basic one. Does this mean it will get an upgraded engine? Or a choice of engines? Currently, the Forester has a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder under the hood, and that's it. The Outback finally received a second engine choice with the 2020 XT models, the same 2.4 liter turbocharged flat-four that powers the Ascent. We're hoping the same happens for the Forester.

If you stick with the base engine, you'll get a maximum horsepower of 182 and 176 lb-ft of torque, which is fine for scooting around town and longer road trips. If you'll be towing a trailer or small boat, the 2022 Subaru Forester near Rio Rancho NM is good for up to 1500 pounds (with the proper set-up). If you need more power or twist, the 2.4-liter turbo puts out 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, which when installed in the Outback, ups its usual 2700 lb. tow rating to a max of 3500 lbs.

The Subaru Forester has a comfortable interior, a suite of standard safety and driver assist features, and an adventurous personality. The 2022 model is expected to debut in late autumn of this year.
