Adaptive MMA in Albuquerque NM is a program offering marital arts allowing students to increase their fitness level and earn their belts all free of charge for special needs and at-risk students. The lessons are offered at Jackson Wink Academy located in Albuquerque, NM. The president, Ms. Winkeljohn, was a teacher and developmental specialists that designed the program. Our hand selected coaches must be motivated and obtain the necessary skills to meet our students' needs.  Several of the coaches were "at risk" themselves or they have a family member that has special needs. These students learn to use martial arts to express themselves in a positive way through martial arts.

Founders
Jackson Wink Academy was founded by Mike and Heather Winkeljohn in 2017. Their daughter Autumn suffered a massive stroke brought on by a birth injury. The stroke damaged more than half of Autumn's left hemisphere which left her one side of her body paralyzed. At 21, Autumn is virtually independent due to mixed martial arts. Though the journey was challenging due to the stroke, Autumn also had to deal with epilepsy, depression as well as trying to fit in to the world around her. She has modifications to drive, is enrolled in college courses, and she works thanks to the effects of mixed martial arts therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Having an exceptional support team was a huge part of Autumn gaining her independence. Supports such as her step dad, Mike Winkeljohn, Keith Jardine, and Holly Holm. Autumn's supporters and the more she participated in mixed martial arts the more her confidence grew, and she found her voice.
