Power and Performance of Subaru Engines near La Cienega NM
Are those rumors you've been hearing about new Subaru Engines near La Cienega NM actually true? We believe they may be, judging by a new report from Japan. The report states a smaller, more fuel-efficient engine is currently under development.

We already know about the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine (used in the Ascent) that will likely power the next generation Subaru WRX STI performance sedan. This FA24 2.4 liter turbo flat-four produces 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
The new WRX and WRX STI reportedly will use a higher-output version of this mill. A rumor floating around suggests this high-output FA 24 could make 400 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque. There would have to be parts like stronger internals, different valves, and more boost in order to handle the extra power.
Reasons for Adding New Subaru Engines near La Cienega NM
Supposedly there are three reasons for switching to the FA 24 for Subaru's next-gen performance cars.
1. It's more efficient than earlier motors.
2. Subaru is less concerned with international motorsports where rules usually favor 2.0 liter displacement.
3. Buyers outside of Japan are used to a WRX STI with a 2.5 liter motor, and are used to the drivability of a larger displacement engine.
The 6-speed manual transmission would remain available, because according to CarSensor, the existing CVT (continuously variable transmission) can only handle up to 295 lb-ft of torque. This issue hasn't been discussed as of yet. There is still another rumor suggesting that Toyota may have some input into the new WRX and STI models.
So, the next engine is the new FA 18 1.8 liter direct-injection turbocharged Boxer engine that's meant to power the new second-generation Subaru Levorg sport wagon. The Levorg isn't sold in America.
This leaves the third new Subaru Engines near La Cienega NM, which is the big news for the US market. This motor will be a newly developed 1.5 liter direct-injection turbocharged Boxer engine designed to replace the naturally-aspirated 2.0 liter Boxer that currently powers the Impreza sedan and hatchback, and the Crosstrek subcompact SUV. The report states it'll put out about the same 152 hp as the old 2.0 engine.

Although Subaru hasn't confirmed this information, it's aligned with what the automaker outlined in its "Vision 2020 Plan." It was stated they would be developing smaller turbocharged engines for its one-of-a-kind AWD lineup.
When these new Subaru Engines near La Cienega NM will be incorporated into new models is unknown. If the report is accurate, it could correlate with the timeline of model redesigns, which is 2022 for the Impreza and 2023 for the Crosstrek.
