Summer Activities in Albuquerque NM to Keep You and the Family Busy
Are you ready to get adventurous this summer? Owning a Subaru makes finding adventurous and fun summer activities in Albuquerque NM so much easier.
Although this strange and uncertain time in our lives is limiting many aspects of life as we practice social and physical distancing, we can't let it limit everything! Supporting local attractions is important now more than ever, and outdoor activities are the safest way to have fun while helping slow the spread of COVID-19.
As the largest city in New Mexico, Albuquerque, and its surrounding areas, has a lot to offer to anyone, no matter what the season of the year is. Being such a big place, it's logical to expect lots of opportunities to do fun and interesting things here. If you own a Subaru, there's no limit to the summer activities in Albuquerque NM that you can access.
Summer was made to check out the waters of the famous Río Grande. Kayaking and white water rafting are exhilarating! Chances are if you own a Subaru, you may have a kayak or two of your own that you regularly use. It's okay if you don't because there are several organizations that rent kayaks and paddleboards. You should definitely try this out if you like some adrenalin and are looking to cool down on a hot day. If you require some tips or more detailed aid, they all offer guided trips. This is one of the most fun summer activities in Albuquerque NM.
Summer Activities in Albuquerque NM: Scenic Drives
Try the seven-mile stretch of old-style, New Mexican charm of the Corrales Road Scenic Byway. You'll get a small town feel in the big city; the Village of Corrales is home to the Corrales Bosque Preserve. Here you'll find walking trails, a natural cottonwood forest, and of course a stunning view. Listen to the trickling river sounds and see the geological grooves of the Sandia Mountains. The Bosque's 400 acres along ten miles of the river provide habitat for over 180 species of migrating and nesting birds, making bird watching a favorite activity.
Driving and riding in our Subaru Crosstrek or Forester makes it worry-free with standard all-wheel drive (especially if you need to get off the pavement for any reason). There are tons of official and not-so-official stunning drives in New Mexico that you can complete in a day. And if you're driving a Subaru, there's no need to worry about burning too much fuel.
Fishing
Whether you're trying for rainbow trout at Fenton Lakes State Park, fishing for bass on the Pecos River, or catching catfish at Tingley Beach, you'll be surrounded by sublime scenery. (Just remember to obtain a fishing license first.)
Biking
There are literally hundreds of places to ride your bicycle around the Albuquerque area. Load up your cycling equipment and go!
Stargazing
If you prefer to keep your feet planted on the ground, take advantage of warm summer nights to explore the heavens. The Bachechi Open Space is a 27-acre area of open farmland. Its isolation from city lights makes it a favorite spot for the Albuquerque Astronomical Society. Star Parties are held every now and then, and anyone is welcome to join in on the fun. Hop in your Subaru and pick your favorite spot.
Either hike to a primitive one or soak in a developed hot spring in an outdoor setting. Spence Hot Springs, near Jemez Springs is undeveloped except for the formation of rock pools. It's in a pretty location that feels further than the quarter-mile it is from the highway. The water at Giggling Springs resort comes from ancient, mineral-rich seawater that got trapped inland. Temperatures at Giggling Springs range from 102˚ to 105˚ F. With the background sounds of the Jemez River gushing by, it's easy to kick back in one of the floating chairs and forget about the world for a while. When you're ready, your Subaru will get you there and back in comfort.
No matter which summer activities in Albuquerque you choose, owning a Subaru makes it so much easier to find fun and adventure.
